Description

Job Title: Unity Developer
Location: Remote, Eastern Time preferred, with an optional one day per week at the studio
Employment Type: Contract, Full Time
Contract Duration: Six months, with the possibility of extending to twelve
Experience: 5-7 years

About Pok Pok

Pok Pok makes thoughtfully designed digital toys for kids. We are a small, mission driven studio raising the next generation of creative thinkers, and our work has been recognised with an Apple Design Award and a place on TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies of 2025. We build open ended play experiences with care, and we hold a high bar for craft.

About the Role

We are looking for a Unity Developer to join us on a six month contract, with the possibility of extending to twelve, to help move Pok Pok forward. You will work across our existing toys and shared systems: building new features and seasonal events, supporting product experiments, fixing high priority issues, and improving performance.

You will work alongside designers, artists, sound designers, QA, and our internal development team. We are looking for someone comfortable learning an established codebase, following an existing product and design language, and taking ownership of clearly scoped work from implementation all the way through testing and release.

What You Will Do

  • Write clean, modular, well documented C# and build 2D, interactive, and physics based gameplay systems in Unity
  • Implement new features, behaviours, seasonal content, and calendar based events across our existing toys
  • Contribute to shared systems such as user profiles, interfaces, character creation, and content customization
  • Build, test, and release across iOS, Android, and Amazon, including the App Store Connect, Google Play Console, and Amazon Appstore workflows
  • Integrate and maintain Firebase, analytics, remote configuration, and other third party SDKs
  • Diagnose and fix customer reported issues, from crashes to progression blockers to platform specific bugs
  • Optimize for mobile: memory, asset loading, rendering, animation, CPU, and load times, including on lower end devices
  • Build Unity Editor tools and asset processing utilities that make the whole team faster
  • Take part in code reviews, estimation, testing, documentation, and release preparation

What You Bring

  • 5-7 years of professional Unity and C# development experience
  • Shipped Unity apps or games on multiple mobile platforms, with hands on knowledge of iOS, Android, and Amazon build and release processes
  • Strong familiarity with recent Unity 6 versions, ideally 6.3 or later
  • Comfort with Xcode, Android Studio, Gradle, signing certificates, and provisioning profiles, plus enough Swift, Objective C, Kotlin, or Java to investigate native issues
  • Experience with Firebase in Unity, JSON serialization, and reliable local data persistence, including save data validation, versioning, migration, and recovery
  • Proven experience writing Unity Editor tools, custom inspectors, and automated build scripts
  • Hands on experience with Addressables, prefabs, ScriptableObjects, atlases, and asset import pipelines
  • Strong grasp of software architecture, design patterns, and state machines, and a track record of optimizing Unity projects for mobile
  • Git, plus clear communication: accurate estimates, early flags on risk, and documentation others can follow
  • Thoughtful use of AI assisted development tools, and the discipline to review and test anything they produce before it lands

Nice to Have

  • Experience with creative, educational, open ended, or child focused applications
  • Unity UI, world space UI, and responsive layouts across phones and tablets
  • 2D animation, rigging, inverse kinematics, layered character systems, or character customization
  • Audio middleware such as FMOD
  • Analytics, experimentation, remote configuration, or attribution SDKs
  • Calendar based, seasonal, or live content systems
  • Atlas and texture optimization, asset bundle management, and application size reduction
  • Additive scene loading, dynamic prefab loading, and application lifecycle management
  • A preference for working in small, tight knit teams

The First Few Months

You will start by getting to know our product philosophy, design language, toys, and workflow. Early work will be clearly scoped, so you can take a feature all the way through implementation, testing, review, and release. As you get comfortable with the codebase, the scope of what you own can grow.

We value reliable delivery, code that fits our existing patterns, thorough testing, and clear communication about risks and blockers.

Where You Will Work

This role is primarily remote. We work closely and asynchronously, and we would like you to be available in or near Eastern Time so there is meaningful overlap with the team. If you are in the Greater Toronto Area, there is the option to join us at the studio roughly one day a week. It is genuinely optional, and the role works well fully remote.

How to Apply

Send us your resume or portfolio along with a short note on why this role is a fit for you, and one interesting thing about yourself that is not on your resume. If you have shipped something you are proud of, we would love a link. A real human will read your application.

Pok Pok is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We welcome applicants of every race, religion, gender identity, ability, age, and sexual orientation.
